AFROGBEDU EXCLUSIVE: LooLoo Talks Background, Style Influences, Meeting FI And More

Following exclusive chats with likes of Oxlade, Minjin and DeekayLooLoo is the latest figurehead to be interviewed.

Ahead of his coming mixtape tagged "Pet Scan", I managed to sit down and converse with the Soundcloud rapper to discuss a number of topics ranging from his musical icons, right down to his style of music. Check it out below.

What's your background?
Born and raised in Ibadan Oyo state.

How did you come up with your artist name? What does it mean to you?
”LooLoo” came from a close friend calling me ‘LuLu’ from Daymelorilulu. I liked it and it stuck.

Did you set out to become a musician?
No I had other dreams but Music was a passion I found along the way to self discovery

What moment made music the way forward for you?
When I teamed up with my very good friend FI. We had a vibe and many new parts evolved.

What do you wish someone had told you when you were starting out?
Focus on yourself. Nobody can help you get to where you want to go.

How do you feel about your success so far and has music changed your life?
I’ve always been me. The music is just a reflection of different stages in my life as I grow and evolve.

Why is it difficult getting into the music industry?
It depends on what you’re trying to achieve and how hard you’re willing to work on your image and craft.
LooLoo at Sony Records In South Africa.
I can't afford to miss this question, amongst all genres, why rap?
It’s the channel I choose to express myself. My music has a feel of anger, pain, passion, love. Rap
is the best way to put it out

Do you think rappers are switching up because of money?
I can’t speak for them but money is a probable cause

Are you planning on switching up too?
Never switching sides.

How would you describe your own style and how do you separate
yourself from other artist?
I just do me. My sound stays unique because it’s always changing. You can’t predict what LooLoo comes up with next.

What inspired your viral single, Big Bags featuring Slimcase?
Making a lot of Money everyday

Who has been your biggest influence?
An idea of the future me, Kanye, Drake, Yung6ix.
In 10-20 years time, what do you want the legacy of Loo Loo to be remembered for?

In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist
in your genre today and why?
. …

What are your best projects till date?
All my projects are my best projects but if I had to pick a favorite I’d say “Double It”

What are the main inspirations for the lyrics you write?
My lifestyle and aspirations.

Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or the lyrical flow and content?
Both. You need the mind to run the body and you need the body to hold the mind. Every part is important.

What aspect of the music making process excites you most, and what aspect discourages you the most?
The freestyling is exciting, no telling what might come out.

Which ingredient do you think is most essential in making your sound and style the way it is?
My melodies

In what ways has your newest music changed from when you first started?
It’s a never ending journey. It’s always evolving

In closing, tell us something about any projects and ideas you have in store or are already working on?
