With his debut single Show You To The World right around the corner, it was only right we had a brief catch up with Marley Jeh.

Afro caught up with the singer himself as part of the new campaign to talk his upbringing, his style influences, difficulties as an upcoming artist and plenty more too.

Check the interview below exclusively on AfroGbedu.

Tell us about your background.
I was born and raised in Ketu, Lagos. I spent most of my life in Ketu. I'm a student of Gateway polytechnic, the youngest of three and I'm in my 20s.

What is your birth name?
Adesola Samuel Dolapo

How did you pick with your artist name? What does it mean to you?
Well, I started off as S.O.B which was the abbreviation of my names Samuel Olatunji Bernard but I didn't like the way people spelt it without adding the dots so my producer, Cashbeat thought I should change the name.
At that time I wasn't sure what name to use because even my mom calls me S.O.B.... So I thought of a role model, someone who preached about both love life and God and Bob Marley came straight to my mind although I wanted only the 'Marley' because I figured out a lot of people already went by the name Marley and I wanted to stand different so I just added J that simplifies Junior, it means Greatness.

What made you want to get into that and pursue a career in music?
Music is what I know how to do best. It gives me joy and I easily express my feelings through it.

Who has been your biggest influence?
Fela, Bob Marley, Lagbaja, J cole and 2Baba.

What is your earliest musical memory and when did you decide to start creating music yourself?
Music has been a big part of me ever since I was a young nigga. I started creating music around 2012 but started making music seriously in 2015.

How would you categorically describe your kind of music and how do you separate yourself from other artists?
I call my sound "a-pop-re"... it's like the combination of Afro pop and reggae. I try not to sound like anyone, I try to make my lyrics more reasonable and make the vibe.
In 10-20 years time, what do you want the legacy of Marley Jeh to be remembered for?
Greatness, which is from the most high.

Who or what are your artistic inspiration?
God, my mum and my hood.

Who would you love to feature?
2Baba and Burna Boy.

What are the challenges you face as an independent artiste?
Lol, what else apart from the funds and having the right connection.

If you had to change 3 things in the Nigerian music system, what would they be?
There is nothing really to change but to be added.

Which artists are you feeling right now?
Mhen! a lot, if I start to give names we no go finish for here but big shout out to every underground act doing the real thing #oneLove.

Outside music, who is Marley Jeh?
God fearing, loving and a very shy type... you can call me the Lover Boy 😊.
Do you have any favourite quotes that you live by?
Can you solve the problem you’re currently facing?
Me: No! So I let God solve what I can’t solve.

What else are you up to right now? What’s coming next for Marley Jeh?
I have a new song dropping later tomorrow titled - Show You To The World, it would be available on all platforms by 12 pm. Y'all need to watch out for that... more greatness coming, no sleeping that ain't safe.
